Religion and government actually worked well together long ago in the state of Maryland. Circumstances such as this have been far from the norm in the United States of America. A sea faring town was founded in 1649 by the Puritans, and then named Anne Arundel Town because it was planned in her sitting room. It was in 1695 that the name was changed to Annapolis.
Although the town’s name was changed to Annapolis, this historical development preserves and protects its past. The tourist is sure to see many eighteenth century structures that maintain the name of “Anne Arundel.”
This lovely town has always been quaint, remaining so until this very day. In fact, the sidewalks are brick and look much like they did in the 1700’s. At present, the eighteenth century row houses and government offices are lined up in the town's center, and taverns are located throughout the town, mingling into its slopes and connecting with some of the best seafood restaurants one would ever wish to enter.
The dome of the Maryland Statehouse overlooks the beautiful and indescribable Chesapeake Bay and the countless sailboats afloat on it. Actually, Annapolis was once the capital of the United States. The Statehouse, built between 1772 and 1779, is the oldest one in the country, with the largest wooden dome. Of course, it was during these years that the Revolutionary War evolved, and Annapolis was the point of convergence for Maryland’s war effort. More history is shared in Annapolis, with residences of the four persons from Maryland who signed the Declaration of Independence.
Today 35,000 people reside in this delightful town. Annapolis is a picturesque place, loved by the visitors and the residents alike. Also, today the seafaring area offers boat tours featuring breathtaking sights, with historic narration included. The tourists receive lots of added visions from the narrators to take home with them. A few visitors were so taken by this town that they have been known to return to Annapolis as a resident after purchasing a place to live.
Thousands of people visit the Naval Academy every year. Sports are enjoyed on the campus, with a lovely view of the river. This entire setting is an ever-present reminder of our country's great history. A visit will take you to riches, including the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
When your tour day is over, you'll be afforded a wonderful selection of cuisines. Though the town is known for its delectable crab, seafood is only the beginning of flavors that one will savor in Annapolis. Prior to going out to dinner, you will have started your day in Annapolis at one of the many bed-and-breakfasts, some of which are adorned in beautiful antiques from the eighteenth century. The historic district is where most of these lovely abodes are located, with shops and attractions nearby.
